Reuse Risks

Serious Issues Can Arise When Reusing Single-use Forced-air Warming Blankets

The primary concern with reusing single-use forced-air warming blankets is the potential for cross-contamination between patients.1 Any patient fluids or other contaminants may be passed from one patient to another if the blankets are reused.

There are other potential concerns that arise as a result of reuse. The hose attachment is not designed for use on multiple patients. Once used, the attachment card may become torn and may not properly attach the hose, allowing for the possibility for the hose to become disconnected and blow concentrated warm air directly onto the patient. Use on multiple patients may also cause other damage, such as tears to the blanket.
